High-Definition DVD Player Reviews
Panasonic DMP-BD10AK
High-Definition DVD Player
Panasonic
provides information about the DMP-BD10AK - along with considerable detail
on blu-ray disc technology - at its
corporate website.
According to a
product description:
The DMP-BD10AK is the first Blu-ray Disc player capable of decoding Dolby
True HD - a new surround sound format that uses less compression than
regular Dolby Digital to produce fuller, richer movie sound effects with up
to 7.1 channels of surround sound. Blu-ray discs can store 25GB (single
layer) or 50GB (dual layer) on a single sided disc -- about 5 to 10 times
the capacity of a DVD. Blu-ray discs also support the highest quality HD
video available in the industry (up to 1920 x 1080 at 40 Mbit/sec) for full
1080p, when used with HDMI connectivity.
CNET concluded:
The good: Excellent picture quality on Blu-ray and DVD; DVD
upconversion to 720p, 1080i, and 1080p; on-board decoding for Dolby TrueHD
and DTS-HD High Resolution; HDMI output; DVD-Audio support; sleek design.
The bad: Bad remote; annoying front flip-down panel; somewhat slow
load times.
The bottom line: If you're set on a standalone Blu-ray player, the
Panasonic DMP-BD10A should definitely be on your short list.
Amazon.com
has more than a dozen reviews from buyers of this unit, virtually all of
them highly favourable.
Here is one:
1080P picture was as expected. With the user settings you can further
tweak the picture- some scenes on Pirates look 3-D. It's the upconversion
that's just as impressive. Every bit as good as the reviews say. You'll
actual enjoy standard dvd's on a 1080P set! I didn't think I would. As for
sound I'm running the 7.1 channels straight into my pre-amp inputs and it's
stunning. If you have a Buttkicker or similar device you might want to
install seat belts in your furniture!
And another:
The new Panny has top rate picture and sound. It supports the newest HD
Dolby and DTS sound tracks. When played through a A/V receiver that supports
the new audio HD tracks the sound will rattle the windows. The load time is
improved over earlier players and the unit has a great sleek look. Upconvert
is great on your old SD discs. If you are looking for a BD player this is
the one. Much better than the Samsung and Sony's. If you are looking for a
lower price for a next gen DVD player go with the Toshiba A2 - its picture
and sound match the Panny in every aspect except load time. I had to have
both formats because I wanted access to all the movies in next gen.
